Choosing a Jetboil or backpacking stove

The right stove starts with your menu. Boiling water for drinks and dehydrated meals differs from regularly cooking in a pot. Compare intended use rather than a headline boil time.

Plan the meals

Count people and hot meals, deciding whether to cook together or in turns. Check usable pot capacity and permitted fill level. More varied cooking places greater emphasis on pot dimensions and suitable flame control.

Check the complete system

Models and generations differ. Confirm compatibility between burner, pot, cartridge, support and accessories. Compare the full required kit weight. Estimate fuel from trials and conditions; laboratory figures do not guarantee the same use in wind or cold.

Follow the exact instructions

Use the stove only outdoors in a suitable, well-ventilated place, never inside a tent or vehicle. Use approved fuel and accessories, check local fire restrictions and bring a meal that needs no cooking. Confirm fuel availability and transport separately: shipping a stove does not mean cartridges can be shipped everywhere. Practise a complete meal outdoors before your trip.
